Vengara

Vengara?

The word Vengara originates from the word 'Ven Kara' which means white land created by moving sea.

Weeks 24 to 26

Thursday 2 – Sunday 6 January

Simon left us on 4 January after having a good time. The resort then became very quiet as all the Christmas and New Year guests left. The hotel became extremely quiet with only a few guests in. Christine managed to slip on an icy curb going to buy bread and twisted her ankle … no more skiing for her for a while!

Monday 7 – Tuesday 15 January

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CAROL AND TONY (13th)

Mrs Bean arrived in Megeve on 7 January. During her time in Megeve we took her on a gondola up the mountains to see Mont Blanc, she went on a skidoo ride to one of the mountain restaurants which she loved, a horse and cart ride, to a casino (but sadly did not win any money) and to see a curling match. Lauren very kindly too Mrs Bean to see the dog sleigh race which started in Megeve as Christine and Darryl were both working. Overall, she had a full, fun-packed week.

We had become increasingly unhappy with the company for which we were working and things came to a head this week when we decided it was time to move on. After a few phone calls we managed to secure a job with Neilson in Tignes to start as soon as Mrs Bean had left for England. We had a couple of late night leaving dos which were great fun, and James was great entertainment with his singing and guitar playing.

We were picked up from Megeve on Tuesday 15 January and taken to our new home. We were very sad to leave behind our new friends who will miss very much.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVEN

Our first day in Tignes happened to be staff day off which was great. We are working in Chalet Les Andes which is lovely, with a swimming pool and sauna, but living in Chalet Alaska next door in a room with a great view over the mountains and the town. Tignes is at 2,100 metres and has plenty of snow with uplift on the glacier to 3500 metres. It is a purpose built resort so not as pretty as Megeve but with loads more to do. All the staff from Neilson in Tignes were heading off to watch or compete in a rail jam in Lavache, the next town, so we went along with them. There were lots of people doing jumps and tricks on their snowboards and skis to win prizes … and there was plenty of vin chaud to keep Christine happy!

Thursday 17 January – Tuesday 22 January

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY BEN (19th)

Our first few days at work in our new job and wow what a difference to the last place! Everyone is very organized and the morning shift is finished by 10.30am and we do not need to return until 6.00pm and we are then finished by 9.30pm. Plenty of time on the mountain, which is after all, why we are here. On the first night we were taken to the local bar to meet the rest of the Neilson staff who work in Tignes – a good bunch of people, we think we are going to like it here!!! For the first few days we had a group of Irish doctors staying in our chalet who were good fun and we joined them in a quiz and Play Station Singstar which was great (especially as Christine is such a good singer!?!!?!!). Darryl has been out exploring the new ski area and has already been over to Val D’Isere. Sadly Christine’s ankle is still sore and a little swollen so she has not been out yet. However, in anticipation she has hired a snowboard for her first attempt at snowboarding when her ankle is better – watch out Tignes!
